FAQPrivate jet price calculator FAQ
How the estimates work, what they include, and how the exact quote differs.
How accurate is the calculator?
It is built to land in the right range, not on the exact figure. It uses great-circle distance, typical cruise speeds plus 25 minutes for taxi, climb and descent, and estimated US hourly ranges, then adds the 7.5% federal excise tax and segment fees on domestic trips. Positioning, daily minimums, overnights and airport fees are not included, which is why the next step is a real quote.
Is the estimate a quote?
No. An estimate shows what a trip typically costs. A quote is a written price from a named operator for a specific aircraft on your dates, and it only becomes binding when you sign a charter agreement.
What does the exact quote include?
Each option shows the aircraft and its operator, the flight time and hourly rate, positioning, any daily minimum, federal excise tax, segment fees and airport charges. Items that depend on the day, such as winter de-icing, are listed with how they would be charged.
Why is my one-way estimate lower than the quote?
Usually because of positioning. If the aircraft has to fly in to collect you, or fly home empty afterwards, that time is billed too. The calculator prices only your time in the air; the quote prices the whole job, and shows each part.
Who operates the flights?
FAA Part 135 certificated air carriers in the US, or the foreign equivalent abroad. Jet Price Calculator is a broker: we compare operators and name the one flying you before you book.
Do I need an account or a deposit?
No. The calculator is free to use, and there is no membership, deposit or sign-up to request a quote.
Can I take my dog?
Plenty of operators take dogs and cats on board, provided they approve each pet ahead of the flight. Mention yours in the notes and only aircraft that accept them will be quoted.
Why does the calculator show a range instead of one price?
Because two things genuinely vary: hourly rates within a category, and flight time with winds and routing. The low end pairs still-air time with the cheapest typical rate; the high end pairs a slower, wind-affected flight with the top rate.
Which airports can I use?
Any airport in the suggestion list, which covers the busiest private aviation airports in the US, the Caribbean, Europe and the Gulf. The quote form accepts any airport or city, including ones the calculator does not list.
Does the estimate include the 7.5% federal excise tax?
Yes, for trips between two US airports, along with segment fees of about $5 per passenger per leg. For international trips the estimate is shown before local taxes, which your quote adds.
Are empty legs cheaper than the calculator suggests?
Often. An empty leg is an aircraft repositioning without passengers, sold at a discount, commonly 25–75% off. The route and time are fixed, and the flight can be cancelled if the original trip changes.
How does a jet card or fractional share compare?
A jet card is prepaid hours at set rates, usually with peak-day surcharges and daily minimums. Fractional ownership is a share of an aircraft, for example a 1/16 share for about 50 hours a year, plus monthly and hourly fees. Charter, which this site prices, asks for no commitment.
Can you arrange flights outside the US?
Yes. We arrange trips worldwide with operators certificated in their own countries, and international quotes include the taxes, fees and permits each route needs.
Still have a question?
Put it in the notes of a quote request and the advisor will answer it with your options.
